Polène entrusted the Korean interior design studio WGNB with creating the architectural look for their first location in Seoul.
The studio’s founder, Jonghwan Baek, drew inspiration from leather and its malleability, imagining a sheet of it cutting into the building and organizing the space with draping panels. With its large bay windows, the facade opens to the district, revealing the full, welcoming atmosphere with its variety of palettes and materials.
Leather covers the seating—a look that is perfectly reproduced through optical illusion on a ceramic table. The table is the work of ceramist Dasol Lee, who used a time-perfected artisanal technique to mimic the texture of the material for which Polène is known. This Ginkgo-wood furniture was carved by cabinetmaker Jungjoo Im and also demonstrates Polène's commitment to promoting local craftmanship.
A permanent workshop has been set up on the upstairs—not unlike those run by Polène in Ubrique, where traditional expertise is passed down through the generations. Here, a leather-working artisan demonstrates this savoir-faire, sharing the meticulous process that brings the hand-crafted leather flowers to life. This intimate setting highlights the human touch of “hand-made”, bringing the spirit of Polène’s ateliers right into the heart of Seoul.
Workshop opening hours:
Monday, Thursday, Sunday : 11 pm to 8 pm
